How to tie a Bowline for rope access - Pro's and Cons of the Bowline

Why don’t you just tie a Bowline knot!!! That was a common comment on a recent collaboration I did with Alpine savvy on Instagram. The post was “How to tie the perfect Figure of Eight Knot”. Similar to the video I did a while ago on here on YouTube. Let me start off with saying, I love the Bowline! It is one of my favourite knots and use it frequently. Just not for people when doing the standard rope access work things. Sometimes we do use it and that is always after careful risk assessment with experienced rope access techs who are also well versed in other rope related activities. It is never for just normal drops, always some special rigging and lifting involved. In this video I talk about why it is a good knot, how to tie it. How to tie off a bowline to secure it and the major disadvantages of the bowline. I share my reasons for why I think it is not a good knot for normal rope access work. After the comment storm died down John from Alpinesavvy mentioned that a video like this might be a good addition so there is a place to point people to if the question arises again.
