At the Bench: Canon 15.5-47 T2.8 Cinema Zoom

Canon has paired its recently released lightweight cine zoom, the CN-E 30-105 T2.8, with the closely matching CN-E 15.5-47 T2.8 Cinema Zoom. Like it's brother, the 15.5-47 weighs just 4.85lbs. Both lenses also share a 300-degree rotation on the focus scale for many precise marks, 11-blade irises, 114mm front diameters for fitting to common matteboxes, and 105mm front filter threads when a mattebox is not an option. Additionally, both the 15.5-47 and the 30-105 project an image circle of at least 31.4mm (big enough to cover RED 5K, ALEXA 4:3 and Phantom Flex 2.5K), and are available in either PL or EF (Canon EOS) mount. The two lenses even have their geared rings at the same spots, facilitating quick lens changes between them. Most important of all, the lenses offer excellent color rendition, resolving power, contrast and center-to-corner optical performance.
