Tedious, intricate, confusing, yet still critical. This is the part of the F355 major service you never want to skip... 👉 Want to see more from the world of Ferrari? Check out more videos here: • The World of Ferrari One of the unique aspects of Ferrari timing belts is how critical proper tension is. Over the years, Ferrari has used several different methods to check and measure it, some requiring no tools and others demanding specific equipment. To make matters worse, the factory workshop manuals are vague—literal translations from Italian often leave you interpreting the steps instead of following a clear procedure. In this video, my main goal is to install and correctly tension the timing belts on this F355 as part of its major service, but I’ll also compare the different methods Ferrari has used, discuss how the F355 procedure differs from the 360 Modena (they share the same belts), and explain how knowledge from later models can improve precision on older cars. From there, we move into one of the most intricate steps of any timing-belt job: degreeing the camshafts. It’s meticulous, time-consuming, and requires the right tooling, but proper cam timing has a huge effect on idle quality, drivability, and power—and can even influence exhaust manifold life and valve-guide wear. Given the ambiguity in the manual ad Ferrari’s unconventional approach, the procedure can be confusing, but once you understand how the cam gears, shafts, and belts interact it becomes manageable. Settle in for a technical deep dive as I walk through belt tensioning, method comparisons, and a full camshaft degreeing on this F355. Whether you're a Ferrari enthusiast, considering a pre-purchase inspection, or just curious about the detail required to maintain a classic like the F355, this video is a must-watch.
