Beneath the Appalachian Canopy - Drone Reveal - Pennsylvania's Secret Geological Giant

Located in the former Bear Valley strip mine south of Shamokin Pennsylvania lies the world famous geological wonder known as the Whaleback formation. Formed over 200 million years ago during the Appalachian Orogeny period, the formation is considered a world class example of Appalachian fold development - the rock here was bent and shaped due to overwhelming tectonic movement and pressure. On this expedition that required written permission to cross onto the private land holdings of the Reading Anthracite Company, I was joined by fellow explorers ‪@HikerDudeDad‬ ‪@SimplyExploVenturing‬ and Cole Swanger. Tragically, the primary footage from my lead camera was destroyed through human error, but the pictures and drone footage survived and that is what I am presenting here.
