A Chell of Morning | Portal 2 Lore
In 1998, Caroline was scheduled to become the genetic life-form portion of GLaDOS. This was seen as a big event so Aperture decided to have this happen on their annual Bring Your Daughter to Work Day. On this day, all of the Aperture scientists would bring their children into the Enrichment Center for a science fair. Aperture was aware of the risks that Caroline could cause when she was put into the machine. To try and combat any unexpected emotional outbursts, Aperture designed personality cores to try and regulate Caroline’s human emotions when she became part of the system. Wheatley aka the intelligence was initially designed to give Caroline bad ideas if she tried taking over as GLaDOS. He was installed shortly after her activation on that same day. Chell was there on that day, possibly with Caroline and the engineers that were part of the process of Caroline becoming GLaDOS. Doug Rattmann met her shorty and that’s how he knew about her. She drew the jelly fish drawings seen around the offices. When Caroline became GLaDOS and Wheatley was installed, she freaked out and because Wheatley was thinking about the neurotoxin button, she pressed the button. Chell’s dad was one of the casualties of the neurotoxin releasing. She was most likely taken into Aperture as a test subject after that because both of her parents were gone and she had no where else to go. Chell is forever just a lost child who had to face things that were way bigger than herself.
