07.28.25 - Midtown, Manhattan - Just before 6:28pm on Monday 911 calls began flooding in reporting an active shooter at 345 Park Avenue off East 52nd street. NYPD responded and found an officer and multiple civilians shot at the location with an unknown gunman still at large. The NYPD called a level 3 mobilization (their second largest) bringing in Local Borough Task Force plus Borough Precinct Personnel. ESU, SRG, CRC cleared all floors of the building and found multiple victims with gunshot wounds as well as the perpetrator with a self inflicted GSW. UPDATE: On the evening of July 28, 2025, a gunman identified as 27‑year‑old Shane Tamura opened fire in the lobby of 345 Park Avenue, the Midtown Manhattan skyscraper housing the NFL’s New York headquarters, along with firms like Blackstone and Rudin Management. Tamura, who drove from Las Vegas with an AR-style rifle, immediately shot off-duty NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, who was providing building security—he became the first of four victims killed, which also included a security guard, a Blackstone executive, and a Rudin Management employee. An NFL staffer was seriously wounded but survived and is in stable condition. Authorities recovered a three‑page suicide note in which Tamura claimed he suffered from CTE—a degenerative brain disease associated with repeated head trauma—and blamed the NFL for concealing its risks, asking, “study my brain”. Investigators say he intended to reach the NFL offices but took the wrong elevator and ended up on the 33rd floor with Rudin Management instead. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell called it a “tremendous loss” and an “attack on humanity,” skipping the Hall of Fame Game to attend the funeral of Officer Islam. The NFL has since closed its New York offices, instituted remote work through at least August 8, increased building security, and held a moment of silence during the preseason opener in Canton, Ohio.
