MOUNT DOOM! Crossing a LIVE VOLCANO on the Tongariro Alpine Crossing - NEW ZEALAND

Next stop on the NEW ZEALAND TOUR is the magnificant Tongariro National Park where we hike the famous Tongariro Alpine Crossing. This is no walk in the park, it's High, Remote, Long, Steep and if that's not enough, it's a LIVE VOLCANO! The weather here can change on the drop of a hat, this can be a dangerous environment. We were lucky, we had near perfect weather and after being dropped early in the morning by our shuttle we hiked for 6 hours with every second being an absolutely wonderful experience. We stayed at Discovery Lodge Camping, it's one of the closest to the hike and they run their own shuttle service which is essential because this is a one way hike. The Shuttle does get booked up especially the first run of the day which is timed to allow enough time to get to the sunrise point on the Volcano. We were on the second shuttle of the day which worked well for us as we were able to hike more in daylight but still beat the crowds.
