Cruising around Dili, Timor L’este Pt.1 - February 2020.

A short clip I forgot I had from February 2020, While in Dili Timor L’este on a Sydney to Singapore Cruise on the P&O Pacific Explorer. This was the local offering for a Hop On Hop Off Bus, Which ran every 40 minutes or so. It was one of those surreal moments as an Aussie being able to visit Timor L’este or “East Timor” an area our Armed forces once occupied to help maintain the peace. Anyone who’s familiar with a bit of history is aware of the East Timor Crisis, Which a bit of info online states the following below. “The 1999 East Timorese crisis began with attacks by pro-Indonesia militia groups on civilians, and expanded to general violence throughout the country, centred in the capital Dili. The violence intensified after a majority of eligible East Timorese voters chose independence from Indonesia. Some 1,400 civilians are believed to have died. A UN-authorized force (INTERFET) consisting mainly of Australian Defence Force personnel was deployed to East Timor to establish and maintain peace.”
