Bloody Disgusting took its namesake a bit too literally while curating the short films that thread together this VHS-themed anthology series; because boy, oh boy, are they some of the most disturbing things we’ve ever seen in our lives. And they sure are interested in effectively utilizing every popular genre trope available to them, regardless of budget constraints, progressively rushing down the tunnel of depravity like a bullet train approaching its next station post-haste. It has allowed them to craft entities that can only be defined as “the stuff of nightmares”. The scale-legged succubus from the 1st V/H/S film was just a taste; over the course of the next 3 films, the developers of the franchise introduced us to 1) ghost-like aliens who use teenagers as incubators, 2) alt-dimension humans whose genitalia have become monstrous because they “worship the opposite side” & 3) literally Baphomet. But even they pale in comparison to the sheer terror-inducing monstrosity that is the “Raatma”. Is it an alien? A mutant? A god? All of them? Or something else, entirely?
