Oil In Car Coolant: 3 Causes And How To Fix It

Oil In Car Coolant: 3 Causes And How To Fix It. In this video tutorial I will show you how to fix oil in car coolant. Here are the causes; A blown head gasket. The head gasket is a thin metal plate between the engine block and the cylinder head. It covers the combustion chamber to prevent the coolant and oil from mixing. When your engine overheats, the head gasket will blow, leading to oil getting in your coolant. When this happens, you will notice a brown deposit on the radiator and coolant tank. A faulty oil cooler. The oil cooler controls your engine oil temperature. Oil coolers are more common in turbocharged engines than in naturally aspirated gasoline engines. A corroded, poorly installed, blocked, or cracked oil cooler will cause its failure. A cracked engine block. Oil will seep into your coolant when the engine block cracks. The cracks form when insufficient oiling and cooling happens in an overheated engine. Solutions to this problem. Replace the head gasket. Get a professional mechanic for a compression or leak-down test to confirm a blown gasket. Replace a damaged head gasket. Replace the oil cooler. You can replace the oil cooler at home or visit a mechanic. Follow these steps to replace the oil cooler: • Drain all the coolant in the cooler. • Allow the cooler to dry for several minutes. • Remove the faulty oil cooler by unscrewing it. • Screw in the new cooler. • Add fresh coolant, oil, and oil filter to the new cooler. • Remove air from the cooling system. Replace the engine block. Inspect the engine block visually or use a pressure tester to spot any leakage. Have a professional replace a cracked engine block.
