On Sunday, September 6th, while on the ladder at Speaker's Corner, Jay Smith was verbally 'ambushed' by Mansur Ahmed concerning the supposed 'lies' Jay has perpetrated in the past for the dating and authority of the recently discovered Birmingham folios, and other Qur'anic fragments. For around an hour the two of them went back and forth, Mansur accusing Jay for his past 'discretions', while Jay riposted with the problems concerning not only the early dates of the folios, but the late dates for the much more complete and important Qur'anic manuscripts. Watch the first hour as Jay and Mansur cover areas including: -Mansur's references to the even earlier Qur'anic folio dates being uncovered in other laboratories (i.e. Lyon, Arizona, Zurich, Oxford and Kiel), four of whose 'median dates' predate Muhammad, the Qur'an, and thus Islam! -The dating for the earlier Jewish Apocryphal and Christian Sectarian writings, which Jay believes are the material these folios are derived from. -Jay's response to the Gilgamesh and Atrahasis tablets, claiming the fact that in their simplistic makeup, they point to the more sophisticated and earlier Biblical accounts -Their debate concerning the makeup, the variants, and the very late 8th century dates for the Topkapi manuscript, and whether 99% or 78% of the manuscript is still intact. -Mansur's correction that there weren't just 4 canonized manuscripts sent out by Uthman in 650 AD, but 9! This fact delighted Jay, who quickly demanded that Muslims must now find and present at least one of the nine canonized texts, complete and unchanged from 650 AD. -Mansur's last comment from the ladder where he accidentally suggested the Qur'an was only 1300 years old, a claim Jay readily acknowledges and supports, at least in its crudest form! In the second hour of the video, Tony Costa, the well known and respected Christian debater from Canada (he has debated Dr. Shabir Ally 12 times) joins Jay on the ladder, and the two of them unpack all the material Mansur either forgot, or refused to talk about, concerning these problematic Qur'anic folios. It is during this hour that you will understand why it is that Mansur and many of his friends spend so much time dealing with the trivial and incidental minutiae, and so little time on the more important early and late dates of their Qur'anic manuscripts. Once they unpack this material, Tony then eloquently yet gently responds to questions posed by our good Muslim friend, Adnan Rashid, and a rather loud and proud atheist protagonist.
