We present to you one of the songs we have played across the world since 1998. From the clubs of New York to celebrating our Honorary Doctorates at Denison University, we love rock'n this song for everyone. "Kashmir" is a song by the English rock band Led Zeppelin. Included on their sixth album Physical Graffiti (1975), it was written by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant with contributions from John Bonham over a period of three years with lyrics dating to 1973. The song became a concert staple, performed by the band at almost every concert after its release. It has been described as one of Led Zeppelin's two most overtly progressive epics (the other being "Stairway to Heaven"). But what is the meaning of Kashmir? "As Plant explained Kashmir's meaning to Cameron Crowe, it was about the road journey itself rather than a specific geographical location: “It was a single-track road which neatly cut through the desert. Two miles to the east and west were ridges of sand rock. It looked like you were driving down a channel, this dilapidated road, and there was seemingly no end to it.” Hence, Plant said, the opening lyric: ‘Oh let the sun beat down upon my face, stars to fill my dreams.’ Musically, the juddering rhythm had erupted out of a late-night session involving Page and drummer John Bonham during one of the band’s regular stays at Headley Grange, the haunted mansion in East Hampshire where they recorded so many tracks in the early 70s." -Mick Wall of "Classic Rock" https://www.loudersound.com/features/... For those that want to sing along, here are the lyrics. [Verse 1] Oh, let the sun beat down upon my face With stars to fill my dreams I am a traveler of both time and space To be where I have been Sit with elders of a gentle race This world has seldom seen Talk of days for which they sit and wait All will be revealed [Verse 2] Talk and song from tongues of lilting grace Whose sounds caress my ear But not a word I heard could I relate The story was quite clear Oh, oh Oh, oh [Bridge] Ooooh Oh, baby, I been flying No, yeah, mama, there ain't no denying Oh, ooh, yeah, I've been flying Mama, mama, ain't no denying, no denying Oh, all I see turns to brown As the sun burns the ground And my eyes fill with sand As I scan this wasted land Trying to find, trying to find, where I've been [Verse 3] Oh, pilot of the storm who leaves no trace Like thoughts inside a dream Here is the path that led me to that place Yellow desert stream My Shangri-La beneath the summer moon I will return again Sure as the dust that floats high in June When movin' through Kashmir [Verse 4] Oh, father of the four winds, fill my sails Across the sea of years With no provision but an open face Along the straits of fear Oh, oh Oh, oh Ooh Ooooh [Outro] Oh, when I'm on, when I'm on my way, yeah When I see, when I see the way you stay, yeah Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, when I'm down, yeah Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, but I'm down, so down Ooh, my baby, ooh, my baby, let me take you there Oh, oh, come on, come on, oh, let me take you there, let me take you there Ooh, yeah-yeah, ooh, yeah-yeah, let me take you there, let me take you there --- ETHEL Ralph Farris, viola Kip Jones, violin Dorothy Lawson, cello Corin Lee, violin ETHEL’s Foundation for the Arts Karen Jenkins, Executive Director Producer & Director Molly McBride Sound Recording Randall Crafton Kaleidoscope Sound Director of Photography Tom Hurwitz Lighting Designer Ned Hallick Camera Wolfgang Held David Smith Assistant Camera Laura Nespola Gaffer Kevin Hunt Grip Kelly Richardson DIT Alvah Holmes COVID Safety Captain Fiona Sherman Post Production Supervisor Christopher Boyd Audio Production and Sound Mixing Randall Crafton ETHEL Video Editor Christopher Boyd --- ETHEL's Signature Sessions: ETHEL Rocks "Kashmir" Led Zeppelin Bonham / Plant / Page arranged by Ralph Farris "Sweet Janis" Ralph Farris after Janis Joplin "Valedictorian" Dan Friel arranged by Kip Jones "Jay-Red" Kip Jones "Possessed by Obscurity" Rodney Yazzie --- Special Thanks Kaleidoscope Sound, Union City, NJ Randall Crafton and Jeremy Delaney The Unitarian Universalist Congregation at Montclair Reverend Scott Howard Gilman Foundation New York, NY The Board of ETHEL’s Foundation for the Arts Recorded live in Montclair, NJ October 23 & 24, 2020 Sound Mixed and Mastered at Kaleidoscope Sound, Union City, NJ
