Travel Escape Vlogs Trip to Shivneri Fort, Junnar Maharashtra Description: This video is a complete tour guide of Shivneri Fort which is located in Junnar city of Maharashtra. Shivneri Fort is the birthplace of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Maharashtra. How to reach: The fort is located at a distance of 90kms form Pune city. You can reach here by road driving through Pune Nashik highway, from Narayangaon have to take a left turn leaving the highway towards Junnar City, from which the Fort is another 20 kms. Fort Timings: The Fort is open for visitors from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on all days. There is no entry fee. About Fort: The Fort is under the governance of Archeological Survey of India (ASI) and is very well maintained. The fort has seven Gates or Darwaza which are Maha Darwaza, Ganesh Darwaza, Pir Darwaza, Hathi Darwaza, Shivai Devi Gate, Mena Darwaza & Kulup Darwaza. There is a temple of Goddess Shivai Devi inside the Fort. Within the fort is a huge lake called the Badami Talav. Remnants of quarters and bungalows can be seen near the lake. A two-storey structure stands at the place where Shivaji was born. Shivneri fort sits in the midst of several forts. To its north stand the forts of Narayangad and Harishchandragad. Hadsar, Chavand Jeevdhan and Bhairavgad are also close by. Five dams – Vadaj, Yedgaon, Pimpalgaon, Manikdoh and Dimbhe – situated around Shivneri are also popular picnic spots. History: This fort holds the true heritage of the yesteryears and is one of the most favourite places or sightseeing. The fort received its true eminence from the legendary Maratha chief Shivaji Maharaj. Shivaji was born in the year 1630 on the 19th of February and his entire childhood was spent in this fort. In fact Shivaji was named after the goddess of Shivai Devi who has a temple inside the fort. The fort passed on to the hands of the Mughals which was again won over by the Marathas in the year 1762.
