Lee Haven Quarter - Maryland Flythrough Tour

Originally located near the southern end of Lee Haven Road near Easton, Maryland. Lee Haven Quarter was formally a dwelling probably built after 1861, when Thomas R. Hollyday took possession of Lee Haven. This 16-foot square, two-story structure has a central chimney which was unusual for a dwelling. It was used in the late 19th and early 20th century as a residence for the Hardcastle family’s Black cook and her husband, who worked as a gardener and handyman on the estate. The second story is divided into two rooms by rough-sawn boards accessed by a steep corner winder stair. It was demolished in 2023, it was a rare survivor of mid- to late-19th century dwellings for Black domestic and farm laborers on Talbot County waterfront estates. This is one of twelve properties documented in partnership with Preservation Maryland.
