Indian national Nikhil Gupta has pleaded guilty in a Manhattan federal court to plotting the murder of Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on US soil. Gupta admitted to three serious charges — murder-for-hire, conspiracy to commit murder-for-hire, and conspiracy to commit money laundering — carrying a maximum sentence of 40 years. According to U.S. prosecutors, Gupta paid $15,000 in advance to what he believed was a hired hitman to eliminate Pannun in New York. The “hitman” was actually a confidential DEA source, leading to the plot being foiled before any attack could take place.
