Broadcasted on September 17th, 2014 In Motsu-ji, ‘Hagi (bush clover) Festival’ is being held from September 15th to 30th. Hagi was the most popular plant used as subject of poem in ‘Manyoshu’, Japan’s oldest anthology of poems and has been a familiar flower for Japanese since the olden days. 500 hagi of three kinds, Miyagino hagi, Shiro-bana hagi (White flower bush clover) and Yama hagi (Mountain bush clover), are blooming in the grounds of Motsu-ji. Various events are held during the festival such as Japanese music performance and tea ceremony. ‘Ennen no Mai’ (Longevity Dance) performed this weekend will feature the program ‘Todomedori’. This program originated from Noh known as ‘Ennen Noh’ which had continued till the late Edo period at Motsu-ji and was revived in modern days. It is performed only at the time of ‘Hagi Festival’. ‘Shofu-an’ is a nice place to rest after walking around the garden and viewing hagi. Soba noodle of ‘Shofu-an’ has rich flavor and provides smooth feeling in the throat, and comes with high quality soup made with matured katsuobushi (dried bonito). ‘Soba-cha Pudding’ is soba-flavored with crispy buckwheat seeds on the top, which makes you love eating it. Ms Junko Kato, Shofu-an Please come and rest at ‘Shofu-an’ when visiting Motsu-ji. Hagi Festival is held till September 30th. Why not go and see hagi flowers in full broom in Pure Land Garden?
