We are excited to present our latest interview with Planetary Times Fellow Lukáš Likavčan, featured in our ongoing YouTube series "Meet the Fellows." Lukáš Likavčan(@lukas_likavcan) is a philosopher specializing in the philosophy of science and technology, as well as environmental philosophy. From the early stages of his career, he has been intrigued by the concept of the planet, exploring it both as an astronomical and cultural entity. In his book "Introduction to Comparative Planetology" (2019), Lukáš explores interdisciplinary studies of the planets, combining scientific and philosophical perspectives. In this conversation, he shares insights from his current project in Giessen, where he examines the concept of the planet, particularly from an astronomical viewpoint. He delves into the notion of habitability and investigates various histories of habitable planets. As part of his fellowship, Lukáš is co-organizing the Planetary Times Workshop: "Reading the Rocks and Stars" (28-29 November 2024) at the Hermann-Hoffmann Academy in Giessen, together with co-fellow Aisling O'Carroll (@a_m_oc ). The workshop will feature guest speakers Adriana Knouf (@zeitkunst ) and Danielle Hewitt, who will give insights on their artistic use of photography, geological methods, and amateur astronomical instruments to read the soil and look at the night-sky as a "picture of time."
