I've been wanting to talk about pride for a while. Specifically, how our egos can quietly destroy the relationships that matter most—especially between parents and their children. In this video, I open up about my dad, our complicated relationship, and the years we spent butting heads over stuff that, looking back, just didn't matter. A few years ago, I sat next to his hospital bed while he was on a ventilator, tubes everywhere, hands tied so he wouldn't pull them out. And the only thing I felt in that moment? Gratitude. Because I'd put my pride aside years before and fixed things between us. I didn't have regrets hanging over me. I'm not here to tell you your situation is fixable—I know some relationships have damage that runs too deep. Abuse, neglect, betrayal... that's a different conversation. But if it's just pride? If it's just two people wanting to be right? Maybe there's still time. I also mention two journals at the end—one for dads, one for moms—that can help bridge the gap. They're full of prompts to get your parents talking about their lives.
