I Captured the Precious Moments of a Ladybug Hatching, and what a beautiful experience it was. I can’t wait for you to witness it, I am excited to share the life cycle of a Ladybug with all of you. The Ladybug starts as an egg, morphs into a larva (worm-like bug), then into a pupa (skin-shedding period), and then emerges as a stunning adult Ladybug. Some Ladybug facts that you’ll watch in this video: 1. Ladybugs are actually beetles. 2. The Ladybug emerges orange, and after 4 hours the black dots on their wing covers develop and begin to darken. 3. Each Ladybug has a distinct pattern and number of black dots on their wing covers. 4. Ladybugs leave behind a yellow liquid before flying. It looks like pee, but it is blood that contains chemicals that deter predators from trying to eat them - secreted from leg joints, it’s a phenomenon known as ‘reflex bleeding’. 5. Ladybugs can eat 5,000 aphids in their 1-2 year lifespan, helping play an important role in ecological balance. 6. Ladybugs are found on every continent, with the exception of Antarctica. They can survive very harsh winter conditions in Canada, through hibernation in groups.
