Chloe: Hello everyone, and welcome back to Voices on the Road. I’m your host, Chloe. Today, we are not going to talk about anything deep or difficult. There is no heavy fashion vocabulary today! I just want to have a little "chit-chat" with you guys. As many of you probably know… I am leaving for Australia not in a few days , but tomorrow! I am super excited, but to be honest, I am also quite nervous right now. My heart is actually pounding. I don't think I will be able to sleep tonight! Chloe: Today, I want to share two things with you: the reason why I decided to study abroad, and the reason why I am feeling so nervous. First, why am I doing this? a lot of you have probably been wondering like you’ve been teaching for a couple of years, why are you suddenly making this decision. Seems like sacrificing your career. Well, for me, I don’t think it is sacrificing my career, it’s more of improving myself academically. The reason I wanted to study abroad was literally because of… you guys. When I started teaching at Amie Road, I realized something important. I realized that I need to improve myself. I need to go out and see the world so that I can provide a more nuanced perspective. I want to experience new lifestyles so I can come back and share that knowledge and those experiences with all of you. I want to be a better teacher and a better guide for you. I don’t want to be the kind of teacher that only teaches you English (grammar, speaking skills) . I want to be able to provide my own experiences with you guys and share everything that I know and help you guys know how wonderful it is to travel abroad, study abroad or to pursue your dream life. Chloe: So, since I have made up my mind, why am I so anxious? Why is my heart pounding? Well, I believe that everyone gets nervous and anxious before moving to a different place. We all have to adapt to new environments and different cultures. That is normal. But for me? This feels actually a million times harder. Because this is actually my first time really moving away. Let me give you guys a little bit about my background. My family moved from Chiayi to Kaohsiung when I was just five years old. Since then, my life has been very stable. I have always enrolled in schools that were close to my home. I could go to school by bus in literally 15 minutes. Think about it—from elementary school all the way to university, my school was always just 15 minutes away from my house. I could always go home easily. I was always in my "safe zone." I have been living with my family for the past 25, 26 years, and when I really have to move to a different country by myself, it is pretty intimidating. Chloe: However, despite the nervousness and the anxiety, I still feel the need to step out of my comfort zone. I know this is the way for me to improve and become my better self. I always believe that when you want to do something, you should just do it. Instead of thinking about it for a really long time, just take action. If you overthink, you will finally lose your momentum. Just like the video we recently shared on our Instagram, I truly believe that confidence is built by overcoming challenges. We have to push ourselves, little by little. Discomfort might be inevitable during the process—it is going to happen—but it is the essence that helps us grow. Chloe: Before I go to pack my bags, I want to say that I am so grateful for my family, my friends, and everyone in the Amie Road community. If it wasn't for you guys, I would not have the courage to step out and make up my mind. Thank you for pushing me. So, thank you for listening to the chit chat today, If you want to know more about my study abroad journey, please stay tuned! [Outro Music Fades In] Chloe: Thank you for listening to Voices on The Road.
