JP Harris explains how the song was inspired by PSC Metals, "the ugly and bulbous wart on the downtown vista of Nashville": "I was driving home one night from a tour, and I could just see the Bat Tower, formerly the BellSouth Tower, and I could see all these new buildings I didn't recognize, and I couldn't see the ones I used to recognize, and I was like, 'wow, goddamn, I leave for three weeks and Nashville gets different', and as I rounded the curve, the final glorious unveiling of the beautiful 2440 eastern loop of the highway system of Nashville Tennessee, expecting to see all these things that I've longed for and missed for the last four weeks, instead I look down to PSC Scrap Metals and there's a big-ass pile of shit on fire that I can't figure out. It seems contained but it's burning yellow and orange and brown, kind of acrid smoke, and there's five or six trucks around it with guys leaning on 'em that don't seem like they've got the thing under control, and it struck me that the analogy was very much the way that I relate to my own city, that right in the middle of the place where the million-dollar condos and high-rise bachelorette lofts could be, there's just a big ol' fuckin' pile of burning trash set against a backdrop of wealth and opulence and productivity and the progression of an urban landscape." By coincidence, on the night of this concert, the news was announced that the site of PSC Metals would be offered for sale by auction, no doubt to be turned into more high-rise apartments: https://www.nashvillescene.com/news/p...
