Today I have an advance stream of Exxekratus – a new EP from Dysangelium, foreshadowing a full length album, which will spread its wings of doom soon enough... The bright posterised ritual totems of the cover art and the blood-red cryptic runic sigils scrawled down the side signify the orthodox themes, but it is not a release which simply retreads and produces a low-grade xeroxed copy of tropes. That said, it is relatively identifiable as a German black metal album, with its staunch demeanour, propulsive momentum and dry imposing delivery. It only takes two minutes for the EP to kick into a repellently rhythmic Katharisis-groove, wrought in clean iron-clad lines that give it a stark presence in a similar style to fellow WTC band, Ascension. A promising prelude to a new full length. The EP is released in full on February 12th, by W.T.C. PRODUCTIONS on CD and 12" vinyl formats.
