My old mans bio tank has a set of tree roots that have grown in through the join between the klargester unit and the riser sleeve that brings it to the surface. My unimog mechanic who also helps his brother with Klargester empty/service & repairs advised Dad to dig in a ring beam around the tank to a foot below the join to cut off the roots already there and backfill with concrete to prevent future intrusion. He then volunteered my services to do it... thanks Robert 🤦‍♂️. Yesterday was stage 1 getting access into the back garden (sorry about the hedge there pops) and investigating the surface around the tank, identifying the services including 4 electric cables, and inflow & outflow pipes. It became evident it needed stripping right back and the beam installing around the sqaure concrete cap left after the tank was originally installed. Under that is uncompacted lean mix which is porous and why the roots had gotten through. They don't use wet concrete to fill as the weight of it can crush the fibreglass klargester units. Stage 2 next weekend, will need to get the 6t machine in there as we need the reach and depth of 6ft (1.8m) all the way around, so a bit more hedge out I'm afraid pops...
