For one thing, it's written by Victor Pemberton who subsequently wrote the Doctor Who story 'Fury From the Deep', which in some ways is a re-invention of ideas underlying The Slide. It's a little bit Quatermassy/X-The-Unknowny too... oh yes, and it features a benevolent scientist character, played by Roger Delgado. Less than five years later he would become famous as the malevolent scientist adversary of Doctor Who, 'The Master'...
