Changes have been made in the committees of Parliament on 4 October. Out of the 22 committees, the main opposition Indian National Congress has got the chairmanship of only one committee, while the second largest opposition party Trinamool Congress did not get the chairmanship of any committee. The Congress chaired the Science and Technology, Environment and Forest committees, while the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party chaired important committees on Home, Finance, IT, Defense and Foreign Affairs. Opposition parties have accused the ruling BJP of destroying democracy and parliamentary procedures. The origin of parliamentary committees is the result of British parliamentary tradition. In India, these committees derive their authority from Article 105 and Article 118 of the Constitution of India. Parliamentary committees consist of a panel of MPs. In which the members of both the houses of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha are included. In some committees only members of Lok Sabha are included like- Estimates Committee. The members of the committees are elected by the Parliament from amongst themselves. Some members are nominated by the Speaker of the Lok Sabha.
