With infinite options in Post-Production, if it weren’t for the assistance of a Deadline, and the resources I had such as Musicbed, pushing me towards the finish line, the project (could take FOREVER / Never Complete). Today, we will discuss MY (subjective) editing process - and take a look inside of this scattered brain, with hopes to lead you to a more successful edit session, to learn about my creative process or simply to see how I built something cool. You do not need to be an editor to enjoy this! Let’s break down 2 months of editing into 15 minutes. ------- ------- ------- SOUND ------- ------- ------- SOUND DESIGN + EFFECTS IN FILMMAKING They are the MOST important for the Structure of your video/film. Sound Mixing vs Sound Design EMOTION I know that I have the right song when 1 of 2 things happens: A. I get goosebumps / feel my senses come alive B. I feel something - like I’m about to cry, or I'm Empowered and motivated TRANSITIONING MUSIC / SOUND EFFECTS Find songs that match similar beats per minute Find the DROP OFF POINT SOUND DESIGN to cover up song transitions! FIND KEY MOMENTS Dead spaces in music/songs = great opportunity for Sound Effects ------- ------- ------- ------- VISUAL FX ------- ------- ------- ------- A lot of this comes down to pre-production (as seen in previous BTS) MAKE SURE that you have the right shots, framing, emotion, lighting! KYLE The one who deserves the spotlight for the CGI work here BREAKDOWN: PROP SELECTION Found a few different CGI Models WRAITH VS DRONES ENDING (COLIN) Would have required us to REBUILD the entire city in CGI, INSTEAD, we did Photoshop layers + Masks VISUAL/PRACTICAL VS SPECIAL The light that was flickering vs Drones ------- ------- ------- ------- COLOUR ------- ------- ------- ------- LAST BUT NOT LEAST COLOUR CORRECTION = BALANCING / NORMALIZING (SINGLE CLIP) COLOUR GRADING = MOST COMMONLY KNOWN / ADDING STYLE TONES Dark, Moody, RED → Brand colours All black outfits to match the Stealth Match Colours with VECTORSCOPE Lots of Tube Lights and Colour Nods to our favourite movies Take screenshots from fav movies MASK Lighting around Brand Assets (Hat)
