Some boat companies follow the trends, but Premier Pontoons sets them, as evidenced by the offerings shown at its most recent press event, held near Red Wing, Minn. There, we saw five new models including a 12-foot-wide pontoon with triple 300s, a cuddy cabin pontoon with triple 250s and the 270 Velocity, a new pontoon line that sports a one-piece fiberglass bow and the wildest rails we’ve ever seen. Clad in a day-glow color called Atomic Red, the powder-coated rails are superimposed on a black fence background for maximum effect. The one-piece fiberglass bow doesn’t have a gate; rather, there’s a step-down to a roomy front deck that’s shaped like a traditional boat’s prow. The raised headrests for the Sport Couches are suspended by acrylic pillars that light up at night for yet another extreme visual statement. Amidships are three new-for-2016 7-Star Flexsteel captain’s chairs that form a conversation area that actually includes the driver for a change.
