Grace Update: Hemi-Fontan outcome and what's to come

Grace has just finished her first Hemi-Fontan surgery. The hemi-fontan surgery is supposed to be the 2nd of 3 total open heart surgeries. The first being 'Norwood Operation'. Followed by the 'Hemi-Fontan' ,which she just had, and lastly the 'Fontan' surgery, surgery #3. Since Grace has had her Hemi-Fontan surgery on September 27th, 2022 - her stats and vitals have been very inconsistent. This really perplexed the doctors, physicians, surgeons, and nurses. The first 24 hours after surgery Grace was very unstable and in pain. They went ahead and did another heart catheter because all of the numbers show that there is an obstruction somewhere in her heart. However, all of the echo's and catheters previously showed that there were no obstructions. That being said, the new heart catheter that was performed has showed that there are some obstructions in her Pulmonary Arteries, as well as, the right ventricle artery that feeds into the Aortic Valve. The team here at Mott Children's Hospital have decided that it is absolutely imperative and vital that we have another open heart surgery immediately to correct the obstructions mentioned. This means that they are going to have to re-do the Hemi-Fontan Surgery, as well as, add in to the surgery an additional surgical procedure for her Aortic Valve.
