Did you know there’s a giant Buddha statue located in Tokyo? You don’t have to travel all the way to Kamakura to see it, and it’s way less crowded. The Great Buddha of Tokyo is located outside the main tourist areas at Jorenji Temple. The Tokyo Daibutsu, otherwise known as the Great Buddha of Tokyo, was constructed in 1977, making it relatively modern compared to other Great Buddhas in Japan. While not as centrally located as other tourist attractions in Tokyo, the Tokyo Daibutsu offers a unique glimpse into Japan’s spiritual traditions and everyday life. In this video, you’ll get tips for visiting the Tokyo Daibutsu and see what it’s like at the temple grounds. I also take you with me to Saitama where we’ll visit a museum that has a special Bookshelf Theater I’ve been wanting to see!
