Dr Shannon Farmer's keynote address at 2020 Annual Scientific Conference of Bloodless Medicine & Surgery Society traces the history of Bloodless Medicine & Surgery, from the early advocacy accommodating patients who object to blood transfusion, to the modern evidence-based way of improving clinical outcomes through transfusion avoidance. It is a compelling journey "back to the future"! Dr Farmer co-founded Australia’s first comprehensive multidisciplinary Blood Conservation Program at Fremantle Kaleeya Hospital, Western Australia, in 1990. He has over 40 peer-reviewed publications, a book in three languages, and eight book chapters to his name, collaborating with local, national and international investigators. Dr Farmer was a founding member of the Society for the Advancement of Blood Management (USA), and the International Foundation for Patient Blood Management. In 2014 he received the Dr Kathleen J Sazama Award (SABM) “For Outstanding Leadership in Advancing Patient Rights and PBM." In 2020 he received the Bloodless Medicine & Surgery Society (BMSS) Award of Excellence "for his excellent contributions to the science and practice of Bloodless Medicine & Surgery." www.bmssociety.org Email: [email protected] To view other informative videos currently on BMSS YouTube Channel, please click on: / @bloodlesssmedicinesurgerys7522 Please subscribe to receive notifications of new videos on this Channel.
