At today' thrid and final concert for Black History Month, countertenor Andrew Egbuchiem is presenting a program entitled "She Who Rises: Voices of the Black Woman's Spirit," with pianist Grace Joy Reid. The recital features works of African and African American composers: • Uyaroma – Joshua Uzoigwe • Is There Anybody Here Who Loves Me Jesus – Undine Smith Moore • The Heart of a Woman – Leslie Adams • It’s Me, O Lord – Betty Jackson King • Dry Bones – Margaret Bonds • River Chant – Hall Johnson • Three Songs (Song to the Dark Virgin; You Won’t Find a Man Like Jesus; My Soul’s Been Anchored in the Lord) – Florence Price Andrew Chukwuka Egbuchiem is celebrated for his unique voice and dramatic expressiveness. He gained international attention at the 2012 Karlovo International Opera Singing Competition in Bulgaria. He made his debut with Brooklyn Opera Works (Dido and Aeneas), Amherst Early Music Festival (Erismena), and the Brooklyn Philharmonia Chorus. He has appeared in recitals nationwide and performed at Carnegie Hall in 2023 with the New York Chamber Orchestra. His awards include winner in the 2025 Utah Philharmonic Concerto Competition - vocal category, the 2020 World Bach Competition Audience Prize, and honors from the American Prize. Grace Joy Reid earned her Bachelor of Music degree from Kansas State University, majoring in piano and minoring in violin and has recently earned her Advanced Professional General Music Certificate from Berklee School of Music. She is a composer, an arranger, pianist, adjudicator, and piano teacher. She is an active member of the National League of American Pen Women, serves on the board of The Woodbridge Music Club, and is a member of ASCAP.
