Hematology addresses diseases of the blood and the lymphatic system. Among the conditions we treat at Hadassah are acute and chronic types of leukemia, lymphomas and multiple myeloma, as well as non-malignant blood diseases such as anemia. We believe in tailor-made medicine and in treating the person - not the disease. In the past, two people who had the same blood disease received the same treatment. Now, the treatment protocol is impacted by individual factors such as age, genetics and molecular DNA markers. So, the same two patients can receive different treatment, individually tailored to each. Our Department is a pioneer in using innovative methods and new medications not yet available through the subsidized "basket of drugs." Such treatment is administered as part of clinical trials and is the hope for patients not being helped by conventional medicine.
