Is it precancerous? What are its treatment options? Reply by Dr.Sreekanth Reddy, Fibroadenoma is the most common problem that patients come to OPD with. If we do 100 breast biopsies, about 50 % of them would be Fibroadenomas. These are benign pathologies found most of the time in younger populations . From the age of 20 to 35 years of age. They can be single or sometimes multiple. Nearly 20% of them will be multiple in numbers and be found in both the breast. Though the extact reason for Fibroadenoma is not known there is a mild relation with hormonal secretion is scientifically proven. Sometimes this Fibroadenoma incease in size in pregnancies most of the non cancerous conditions but some complex Fibroadenoma are considered as precancerous conditions so how do we manage this Fibroadenoma? If the Fibroadenoma are smaller in size and not producing any symptoms then he Fibroadenoma can be managed conservatively and should be on regular follow up. If the Fibroadenoma are increasing in size and measuring more than 5 cm in size and are more complex in their histopathology, then we do biopsy, such Fibroadenoma need to be surgically excised the either treatment options we have to Fibroadenoma.
