In this second talk in the series, I will focus on the 1970s. How did the emergence of second wave feminist activity and theory inform women’s comics? How and why were comics being produced by women? How did the humour reflect the lives and experiences of women at the time and respond to mainstream humour? What was the relationship between alternative comics and women? These are some of the questions I will respond to in this illustrated presentation which was recorded live on Zoom 20/06/2020 The series is based on my book: UK Feminist Cartoons and Comics UK: A Critical Survey. (2020, Palgrave McMillan).
