We love Hampden Estate on Different Spirits. It's only been about a decade and a half since the Hussey family bought the distillery out from the Jamaican government and introduced some new marks and - rather against tradition - began aging their own stocks. Since then Hampden has experienced a meteoric rise in the perceptions of the international market, and in demand, and in pricing, to the point that in every recent official bottling review that I've put out (see    • Hampden Great House 2024 v. Zind-Humbrecht...   or    • 3 Hampdens + Many Feelings: Pagos, Great H...   etc.) I've had to bring up the question of whether these things are just getting too expensive. Today I've got two new ones on deck, and beyond questions about the naming (see Arminder's worries at    • Introducing Hampden’s Newest Rum! | 1753   ) you're faced with that same issue: whether $80 and $230 respectively are worth it for bottles of three year old rum. Stats: Hampden Estate "1753" Pure Single Jamaican Rum (3 year old HLCF, 476.9 g/hLaa esters, bottled circa 2025; 46% ABV), 87+/100 Hampden Estate "The Maverick" Pure Single Jamaican Rum (50% HGML 2018, 40% LFCH 2020, 10% C🔷H 2021, bottled circa 2024, 1,500 bottles; 59% ABV), 89/100 The answer? Basically? Yes, the 1753 is excellent and - in the broader context - still worth it, and Maverick can probably be excused since it's a special limited thing only for the hardcore. That said, go buy HLCF Classic! While it's still out there!!
