The story of Muhammad ascending to heaven on the Buraq was seemingly copied from pagan religions. In the Persian pagan religion, a man is also transported and has a spiritual revelation from not only heaven but hell as well. The word, “buraq” is also derived from the Iranian word, “baraq” or the Persian word, “barak” referring to a fantastical mount. In Persian beliefs, the Barak is a demon that took the form of a fiery horse. These creatures/demons could be summoned by shaman which coincidentally (or not) is how the Persians described Muhammad.
