Welcome to Game Play. A series, of sorts, where I check out various video games and share the pure gameplay experience with you. Today we're taking a look at Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath on the Xbox One X. My immediate impressions so far: MK11 is a great game, to be sure, and I own each DLC released. I'm not a huge fan, and I'm certainly not the greatest at fighting games, but I really enjoy MK11. Recently, I got the latest DC in the bunch, Aftermath, that not only provides 3 new characters but also the first story-based expansion in the series. From the first or so hour of the campaign, I can say that it feels quite a bit like MK11. This isn't a bad thing. There are limits to the amount of variety you can create in terms of story-based campaigns in fighting games. Here, you'll follow a character throughout 3 fights with other characters followed by several and lengthy cutscenes. Nothing new but so far it's quite engaging and it works. I even had a hard time turning off the game. Don't get me wrong: by no means is it a masterpiece, but it's fun and engaging nonetheless. Now, is it worth it? Well. So far, I'm enjoying myself but I do feel that the price is a bit too high considering what we're getting. If you manage to find it at a discount or as a complete edition, I'll wager you'll get a satisfying amount of entertainment. The game was recorded directly on the console to an external HDD. No postwork has been done.
