Doing A PhD Forces You To Be Open And Honest With Who You Are

Today, I was looking over my teaching evaluations to try and figure out how I should improve my instructions. Yes, I am a sucker for punishment, and yes, I am well aware of all of the problems with teaching evaluations. I was trying to think about the things that teaching evaluations make you do. I think the key thing that I have learnt about them is that they help you reflect on who you are as a person. Once you get through all of the negativity and emotional responses, you see what you are about when you look at teaching evaluations. For instance, I know that evaluation is important to me. As well as theory, and knowing how we get to the ideas of where we are in the literature. This makes me seem tougher than some others, but I think these are important aspects of organizational theory and academics that we should teach to students. So, yes, I am a sucker for punishment, but looking at teaching evaluations, however imperfect, are nice to have because they make you think about what you honor as an instructor. ***************** Check out: MBA or Masters?
