ISRAEL - Arbel Mountain Loop Trail. הר ארבל מסלול מעגלי ארוך

Arbel Mountain Loop Trail Mount Arbel is located just beside Lake Kinneret (The sea of Galilee). The cliffs rise some 400 meters above the Lake and the view from atop is breathtaking. Going downhill one sees the dugout caves that were used as hideouts by Jewish rebels who were fighting against the Roman Army. The historian Josephus Flavius writes about how in 38 BC, Herod the Great, with the help of Roman soldiers, defeated some of the last rebels by lowering men in boxes tied to ropes getting to the caves from above, surprising the rebels and putting an end to them. The 'Horns of Hattin' in Hebrew meaning 'The horns by the wheat field'. The valley below is where on the 4th of July, 1187 A.D, on their way to Tiberias the Crusaders were trapped by the armies of Salah al-Din and defeated thus ending the Crusader Kingdom in the Holy Land.
