00:00We are happy to share another delightful concert of Dr. M Balamuralikrishna, (BMK) held in Kensington, New Hampshire, USA. This concert was organised by Brindavan cultural music society and was held on 18th November 1979. As per the 'recording testimony' available with the recording, this concert has been recorded on a Dolby Stereo system and listening to this concert on a music system is indeed a feast to the listening faculty. Making the sound to fill the room with this quality of recording and getting merged with the music is an experience to be experienced. We hope you too would enjoy listening to this great quality of music. Here, BMK meticulously presents each kriti with some announcement and most of the kritis have rāgālāpana either brief or detailed. The accompanying artistes work in unison with the vocalist bringing out the best from each piece they present. The "softer notes" played on mridangam is worth noticing as you listen and his approach in presenting the concluding rhythmic stokes. The main item of the concert is a rendition of St. Tyāgarāja’s composition in the rāga Shubhapantuvarāli and has a duration of about 52 minutes. The rendition includes rāga elaboration, svara-vinyāsam and laya- vinyāsam. This particular rendition of Népogadakunté, from rāgālāpana to the laya- vinyāsam oozes the bhāva intended in the kriti. In the second half of the concert, BMK announces about the listener's choice and picks out a few kritis to sing. The rendition of 'Nagumómu' presented here is so crisp and is equally melodious and resonates with the energy of feedback from the audience. BMK is accompanied on the violin by Sri. Annavarapu Ramaswamy and on the mridangam by Sri. Tanjore Upendran.
