Needless to say, a Chainsaw that doesn't start won't help you much. Luckily there are a few common problems that can be causing this to happen. In this video, we'll take you through some of the most common parts that could be damaged or malfunctioning, and resulting in a chainsaw that won't start! If you need a hand replacing one of these parts, just click on the links that pop up in the video, or follow the links below! Here are the six most common parts that could prevent your chainsaw from starting: 1️⃣ Carburetor A dirty carburetor (often caused by fuel being left in the chainsaw) can prevent your engine from getting enough fuel, and therefore cause your chainsaw not to start. Giving it a quick clean with carb cleaner is often enough. If you need to replace the carburetor, check out this video: • How to Fix a Chainsaw Carburetor 2️⃣Clogged Air Filter (0:28) If the filter is clogged, it can disrupt the fuel/air mix in the carburetor and make the engine run rough or not start at all. Sometimes these can be cleaned, but it's often smart to replace them entirely. Here's how: • Chainsaw Repair - Replacing the Air Filter... 3️⃣No Fuel/Old Fuel in the Tank (0:43) This is pretty self explanatory, but it happens all the time. Fill up the tank and you'll be back in business. If there's old fuel in the tank, drain it out and replace it with new stuff, and you'll be good to go! 4️⃣Clogged Fuel Filter (1:07) Like the air filter, if the fuel filter is clogged, the engine can be difficult to start, or may not start at all. To replace the filter, check out this video: • Chainsaw Repair - Replacing the Fuel Filte... 5️⃣Defective or Dirty Spark Plug (1:22) If there's no spark, the fuel in your chainsaw's engine won't ignite, and obviously this will prevent your chainsaw from starting as well. You may be able to clean the spark plug to get it working again. It's also good to replace the spark plug every couple of years, so this may be the time to do it. Here's how: • Chainsaw Repair - Replacing the Spark Plug... 6️⃣Recoil Starter If you pull too hard on your chainsaw when you try to fire it up, you can damage the recoil starter, and this will make it tough to start the saw. Here's how to replace it: • Chainsaw Repair - Replacing the Starter Pu...
