For 20 years, master glassblower Siddy Langley has handcrafted the trophies for the Green Energy Awards — each one unique, each one part of a family, each one quietly telling a story about creativity, perseverance and the energy transition. In this film, Siddy reflects on her extraordinary journey: from a chance weekend glassblowing class in the late 1970s to becoming the artist behind one of the UK’s most respected renewable energy awards. What began as a commission became something deeper. Through her long association with Regen and the awards dinners, Siddy found herself inspired by the innovators, engineers and entrepreneurs shaping the low-carbon future. That inspiration led her to build her own eco home and studio — powered by solar panels and an air source heat pump that captures waste heat from her glass furnace to provide hot water and heating. Glassblowing is not traditionally considered a “green” craft. In this candid conversation, Siddy speaks openly about wrestling with that reality — moving away from lead crystal, reducing harmful processes, and choosing to make her practice as sustainable as possible rather than giving up the art form entirely. Each award she creates carries: • A subtle tree motif • A distinctive green (recently changed as suppliers removed lead from the pigment) • A balance of individuality and continuity — so winners’ trophies sit together like a “happy family” Over the past two decades, the UK grid has shifted from around 0.3% renewable electricity to around 40%. Through it all, Siddy’s work has celebrated the people driving that transformation. Her story reminds us that artists have a vital role to play in climate action — not only by celebrating achievement, but by quietly modelling change in their own practice. This film forms part of Regen’s 20-year celebration and connects to the international art and energy publication: On a Day Like Today We Just Need to Look Forwards: Energy, Culture, Creativity, Community Discover the publication here: https://artearthbooks.com/a-day-like-...
