Seventh Anniversary of Alexis Grigoropoulos's Murder
December 6th, 2015 was the seventh anniversary of Alexis Grigoropoulos's murder by a police officer. That day in 2008, on duty police officer Epaminondas Korkoneas shot in cold blood Alexis Grigoropoulos a 15 year old boy in the district of Exarchia. The murder sparkled large protests and demonstrations, which escalated to widespread rioting, with numerous rioters damaging property and engaging riot police with Molotov cocktails, stones and other objects. Epaminondas Korkoneas was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of a subsequent reduction, a finding that has significance as the court upgraded the charge to first-degree murder with intent from murder without explicit intent.
