While it doesn’t quite roll off the tongue, the More Homes Built Faster Act does make plain what its objective is. It’s a major overhaul that touches everything from municipal planning to development charges with the aim of increasing the supply of housing by 1.5 million new homes within a decade. The province is in a housing crisis and needs all forms of new development including new houses, condos, purpose built rental units and especially more affordable housing. Along with Bill 23, the Ford government has announced its intension to open part of the Greenbelt for development. Is it enough – or too much – to move the needle on the housing crisis?
