On the Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Abdul Khaliq (Short English Translation) Abdul Khaliq, a 17-year-old Afghan student, changed the course of history by assassinating King Nadir Shah on 8 November 1933 during a school awards ceremony at Dilkusha Palace. According to the historian Ghulam Mohammad Ghobar, Khaliq fired three shots at close range, killing the king instantly. After his arrest, Abdul Khaliq was subjected to severe and prolonged torture to force confessions. Despite unbearable suffering, he never betrayed anyone and repeatedly stated that he alone decided to carry out the act. On 18 December 1933, Abdul Khaliq was publicly executed in Deh Mazang, Kabul, along with others, in a brutal manner. Even in his final moments, he showed extraordinary courage and dignity, refusing to utter a word of pain. Ghobar describes his martyrdom as a powerful symbol of bravery and resistance against tyranny. Abdul Khaliq remains a lasting emblem of courage in Afghanistan’s modern history.
