This is a presentation by Osik Moses followed by a panel discussion with Carla Garapedian (Armenian Film Foundation), Bedo Demirdjian (Independent Researcher), and Ara Sarafian (Gomidas Institute). The main illustrated presentation is by Osik Moses on her work in German archives regarding Soghomon Tehlirian's assassination of Talaat Pasha in Berlin, 1921 and the politics that unfurled around the police investigation and trial that followed. While German authorities spared no effort to avoid the politicisation of the trial and drawing attention to charges of German culpability in the Ottoman-Turkish genocide of Armenians during WWI, Tehlirian's supporters wished to publicise the mass-murder of Armenians that had taken place only a few years earlier, and another Turkish circles and their allies in Germany, such as the League of Eastern Fighters, worked to portray Tehlirian as a common murderer. In her illustrated talk, Osik Moses focuses on police and judicial records, court transcripts, newspaper accounts, as well as the pertinent secondary literature related to Talaat's assassination and its aftermath. BIO: Osik Moses is an indexer for the Armenian Genocide Testimony Collection at USC Shoah Foundation and an independent researcher trained in oral history, archival documentation, and genocide studies. She is currently working with the Gomidas Institute to make her work more accessible to the general public.
