#politicalsongs #protest #punk #altrock #resistance #music #revolution This song was written before the pandemic and it was originally about Trump, Boris, Brexit and why weren't more people rising up about it all. On the day that I picked up the master recording for the album 'Make Anger Great Again', the lock down had been enacted in the UK. By the time this song came out in July 2020, the world seemed to be up in arms - the Black Lives Matter protests around the world, anti-lockdown protests, the US election troubles and the growing disillusionment in governments around the world - the song seemed to be eerily relevant. That didn't help the song though - several online platforms (including this one) initially rejected the song & the video from their sites and I was unable to run any paid promotions on the song either. I also got a lot of hate from right wingers and the lyrical spirit of the song began to overshadow the music. The song seemed to be condoning a lot of the action that was happening around the world, despite being written & recorded before much of it had begun. Whereas when it was written, it was about rising up against the previously dominant issues (inequality, populism, poverty, scapegoating of the vulnerable) and was not meant to be an encouragement to destruction & chaos. Musically, the song is one of my favourites on the album and I used a fuzzed out Baritone Guitar on the main Drop D Guitar riff, using a combination of an MXR Sub Machine pedal and the classic ZVex Fuzz Factory. The performance parts of the video were all filmed in an abandoned house on my street - as the video was shot during lockdown, the original plan of having a full band behind me in a large open warehouse, had to be changed last minute - so we ended up with me playing all of the instruments instead. The music video was filmed & edited by Scott Carey. The song is taken from the brand new album 'Make Anger Great Again' which was released on September 25th through Konic Records.
