Stimulator Dry Fly: A Great Searching Pattern

A slower take on the stimulator pattern. And a little introspection on my part. I love this pattern for faster water. It floats nice and high out of the water, and drys out with a couple false casts. It’s not a beginner pattern, but with a big hook it is forgiving when learning dimensions. It’s a good pattern for beginners to practice tying deer hair. Any colour dubbing can be used for either the abdomen, or thorax area. It’s really more about profile I think with this fly. As well, hackle colour I think is not overly important. Certainly in faster water the fish won’t get enough time to see if the hackle matches whatever bug they think it is. And the wire, so long as it’s a simple dull colour, it will be fine. I stripped some electrical wire I found when I was beginning to tie and it worked fine. Some re-used wire can turn green though so be careful!
