Speaker: Yanqin Wu Title: Eccentricities of Binary Stars — how an arXiv discussion led to an interesting pursuit Abstract: Binary stars are populous and are of interest to various branches of astrophysics. Surprisingly, despite our large collection of such systems, their eccentricity distribution is not known. I will describe how we unwittingly hit upon an answer for this basic property, and how an arXiv discussion ignites our pursuit into understanding the physics behind it.
