Day hike up Omu Peak in the Bucegi mountains (Romania). I discovered that Romania has some incredible scenery, none more so than the Bucegi mountains. The hike that I had planned was supposed to be a 13 mile out and back to the summit of Omu Peak (the highest point in the range). When I got to the top, I decided that I wanted to explore a bit more of the plateau. So I thought I would be able to get the cable car down to the valley... Poor planning on my part, as I found that the cable car stopped running about 30 minutes before I arrived. That just made it a longer and more exciting hike, a 22.5 mile loop. I did do myself a favour in bringing a paper map with me, meaning that navigating my way back down to the valley was easy. 22.5 miles. 5,413 feet / 1,650 metres elevation gain.
